Dog Day Afternoon…

Whooooa… it’s hot, hot and very hot & humid even from Atlanta’s standard. Is it the infamouse Bermuda High again? This year’s hot weather really is testing the stress limits of everything, A/C for one thing. So far our two trusty electric fans got broken (from contant running).. what’s next victim(s)

Even moreannoying is the WordPress’ trouble with uploading meager 16M pdf file (via PHP of course). Our home has 64M allowance which I have set myself (being located at home), but not with hosted, shared production servers (at GoDaddy). Currently it boasts 8M upload size limit.  How can I make it larger from web host console (at GoDaddy)? Is it even possible?  Another dog day annoyance.  By the way, being desperate, I bypassed php upload limit by ftp’ing the file, but strange enough, the WordPress’ media window even didn’t recognize it. A perfect dog day afternoon, bravo!

Contacting godaddy for help brings this concise response:

Thank you for contacting online support. By default, PHP limits scripts uploading files to 8 MB. To change the limitation, edit the following values in your /php.ini file for PHP4 or /php5.ini file for PHP5:

memory_limit = 50M
post_max_size = 10M
file_uploads = On
upload_max_filesize = 10M

The above settings change your PHP upload limit, allowing you to upload files up to 10MB in size.

The maximum upload value that you can specify for upload_max_size and post_max_size is 192M.

If you are running Hosting Configuration 2.0, you can create custom .ini files for both PHP 4 (php.ini) and PHP 5 (php5.ini) in the root directory of your site. Please note that php.ini and php5.ini files must be in the root directory to function properly. These files will not work if placed in subdirectories, whether or not they are aliased to the root directory. Unfortunately, we cannot help create a php.ini file. we do not provide technical support with third-party scripting issues. We regret we can not assist you further with this issue and thank you for your understanding in this matter.

Which ‘root’ folder are they talking about? Hosting Configuration 2.0 allows you to modify the root foler’s php.ini file? Never knew about it. Are there someone who tried this?

I’ve beeing using Chrome for 2 weeks now without any major hiccups.. until now. It consistently fails to render pdf file (only 2 pages out of 99 displayed).. Firefox & IEx had no problems with this particular pdf file. Someone out there had some experience like this?  Dog day afternoon continues..
