As of yesterday, Atlanta’s 3 week long mid 90s heat wave came to end, hopefully.. This morning is more promising, heavy downpour under cooling air over. This force of nature almost instantly cooled down home servers inside a small closet in garage.
Then the heat wave got started 3 weeks ago, I measured the closet temperature at evening, was shocked to see 100 degree mark on the Honeywell’s round thermostat. Brought down small electric desk fan near the servers (4 of them), kept it turned on. But it didn’t seem temperature inside the closet coming down as much as I hoped. Then the fan stop running, apparently the motor got over-heated.
Time to do something more drastic.. open up the garage windows risking the possibility of intruders or robbers, putting electric fan on it, controlled by x10 appliance switch running timer. This made huge difference~ the garage got significantly cooler, then closet followed its cooling nicely. But still the closet temperatures stayed over 90s.. Unless spending $$$, that’s the best I could do for this summer. Amazingly the servers run flawlessly during the time.
